What do you do at LitLingo?
Director of Data Modeling
Favorite part of working at LitLingo?
There are a lot of favorite things to choose from at LitLingo. The team is fantastic, and the product is the best kind of innovation. All that said, I have to stay true to my dorky linguist self and say that the data is my favorite of the favorite things. Give me a big pool of data and a set of patterns to find, and I am happy as can be.
What do you find most rewarding about your role?
I love the aha moment when people realize just how cool our product is. LitLingo has such an impact on the way we communicate.
What makes someone successful on your team?
Linguistic insight (i.e., understanding language patterns and their business context) is a must for success. We need to be able to step into our customers’ shoes and immerse ourselves in their jargon in order to effectively tune high accuracy models.
What’s the biggest problem your team is solving?
In no small way, the Data Modeling team is taking a wish and helping to make it reality. This sounds crazy, but it is true in a sense. The wish is something like “I really wish people wouldn’t say that in that way.” We create, tune, and maintain the models that help make that wish come true.
What projects are you most excited about?
Building a team of kickass data modelers is really exciting. Linguists are a fun bunch, and I can’t wait for the theoretical debates that are certain to come with gathering a group of them together.
Favorite thing to do in Austin?
Eat Mexican food. California could do with some good Tex Mex. I miss it.
Hiking through the redwoods. I would run off and live in the trees like an Ewok if I were able.
